Another grammar irritation.

I have come to the conclusion that I absolutely HATE when people capitalize things unnecessarily. No, I'm not talking about things like how I just capitalized "hate." I'm talking about this: "Come share your Special Memories with us." Really? Why in a million years would you think that "special" and "memories" needed to be capitalized?

Now, I can give a little wiggle room to people who speak English as a second language. There are certain words in different languages that are appropriate to capitalize. But it drives me nuts to see it - especially in print ads, etc.

Seriously, people? Why???

I know. Oh. My. God. I hate such things and I rant about them constantly. I yell at the TV when I see words made plural with apostrophes (ex: "the cat's play with ball's"), people who don't know there/they're/their and your/you're/yore and the like. This pisses me off especially when, like you said, the one in error is a NATIVE SPEAKER OF ENGLISH and very likely speaks no other languages (which crushes the argument of them being confused between English and some other language). I could go on and on, but I won't. It honestly does make me feel a little better to know that I'm not the only one out there anal about these things!

The guys at work, especially those with engineering backgrounds, do it ALL THE TIME. And I'm in charge of editing their work and it drives me CRAZY! And no matter how many times I tell them it's wrong, they continue to do it. So, I blame the physicists who taught them bad things in school. =)

Ahhhhhh! Here is another pet peeve of mine. I hate when billing companies send you a return envelope, but the pay stub is too long or doesn't fit the size envelope they send. What is up with that? A teeny, tiny envelope with a ginormous pay stub chaps my ass!

At my work, the word "standpoint" is way over used. I silently cringe every time.
